SHAPTON 16000 and 30000 grit stones Diamond Glass Lapping Plate on the Stone Holder
A DVD featuring Howard Schechter and Harrelson Stanley of Shapton will be available on this site in October and it will be all about using Shapton stones to hone straight razors.
The Shaptons are highly engineered, composite ceramic stones bonded to an extremely flat glass substrate. They are very flat stones and are the flattest of any we've ever carried. I recommend having them lapped flat prior to shipping ($5) if you do not have or are not ordering a DGLP (Diamond Glass Lapping Plate).
We have the:
1000 @ $42.00
4000 @ $55.00
8000 @ $79.00
16000 @ $99.00
30000 @ $279.00
The Diamond Glass Lapping Plate (DGLP) is a highly engineered diamond plate for keeping the Shaptons flat. It's used only on Shaptons and never on any other kind of stone. Using any other kind of stone to flatten Sharptons is not recommended by Shapton. The DGLP should be considered a "must have" for serious Shapton users. It's $284.00 and will get you all of the performance out of the Shapton stones.
The Glass Stone Holder is the heaviest holder on the honing market and holds the Shaptons flat while you're using them to hone. At about 4 1/2 lbs., it holds the stone solidly and without flex. It's $79.00.
The Sharpening Pond is also part of the system. It's made of two plates of tempered glass bonded together, mounted in a heavy rubber base and the glass is treated so that it will not let the Glass Stone Holder move. At all. It also collects the swarf water and keeps things neat. It's $160.00.
The Shapton "system" is highly engineered, beautifully designed, and will give you outstanding results when honing anything from straight razors to kitchen knives to plane irons . . . or anything else!
I can fit the stones above, the DGLP, and the Stone Holder in a flat rate USPS box and so shipping is $12 anywhere in the U.S. We ship all over the world so email me for a quote at hschechter@theperfectedge.com
Thanks!
